The second leg of Maya’s journey lands in Moscow, stomping ground to Nikita Zabelin: underground techno activist and the next collaborator to remix a track on Maya's True Music EP.

Our second party in Russia will explore Maya's darker leanings: a brutalist techno showcase with some of Russia's most vital artists (old & new), together with international friends Chris Liebing & Cosmin TRG.

Maya Jane Coles "Trails (Nikita Zabelin Remix)"

The second cut from Maya Jane Coles' True Music EP comes from Nikita Zabelin, Moscow's foremost techno activist & the figure behind Techno Makes Sense, one of Russia's most vital underground movements. His rework of Maya's forthcoming album cut "Trails" is a dubbed-out homage to Maya's trip-hop origins, a down-key anti-techno arrangement blended with live instrumentation.

Nikita Zabelin: Behind The Remix

Boiler Room & Ballantine's kicked off a three-leg tour with Maya Jane Coes to curate the True Music EP: three remix records of unreleased tracks off her new album, by some of her favourite artists from around the world.

After South Africa, we plunged into Russia's deep winter to meet Nikita Zabelin, Moscow's foremost techno activist and Maya's next collaborator on the record. Watch the story behind the remix: a film that spotlights Nikita's place in Russia's burgeoning underground, the centrality of club institution ARMA 17, and his experience working with Maya Jane Coles.

There's a reason Cosmin TRG is no stranger to BR: he's really (really) good at what he does. Always experimental but ever-idiosyncratically Cosmin, here's an hour with the Romanian specialist.

Warped electronics & deep acid galore — watch ARMA 17 resident Dasha Redkina unload in Moscow.

Maya Jane Coles

Maya Jane Coles

One of the main reasons we rooted for Maya to launch our True Music series was her creative versatility. Through years of experience, she turned heads as a producer & performing artist because of her deftness in weaving seamlessly between a number of different creative touchpoints: her own vocal-led brand of house music, the dubbier ends of bass music, and straight up knocking techno.

For the second leg of our True Music tour with Ballantine's, we land in Moscow to explore her darker techno leanings. What we've put together is a towering tundra comprised of some of the foremost figures in Russian techno, together with some of Maya's international friends. Batten down the hatches.

Chris Liebing

Chris Liebing

Chris Liebing's journey into the pantheon of Europe's techno greats started in a sleepy village in the German countryside. As the founder of Spinclub – a small but fiercely loved venue in Linden – he started his career as one of the most tireless music activists in the business. In the next decade, his roll call of achievements are long & winding: launching the now goliath label & podcast series CLR; holding down an arsenal of Ibiza residencies; and headlining bills in nearly every continent. Always future-facing, Chris bounds into the next decade trying to pitch his craft to even taller heights. We're delighted to have him back on our screens.

Cosmin Trg

Cosmin TRG

There's a reason Cosmin TRG is no stranger to BR: he's really (really) good at what he does. Having bubbled up via the bass-leaning slipstreams that rose in dubstep's wake, the Romanian has carved a name for himself as a jack of all trades & a master of as many. Now with feet firmly rooted in techno territory, he's doubled down to distill a sound he's spent over a decade personalising. Always experimental but ever-idiosyncratically Cosmin, he remains true to himself while forever plumbing new depths. Expect techno, but not like you know it.

Nikita Zabelin

Nikita Zabelin

It's fair to say Nikita Zabelin is one of the most important gatekeepers to Moscow's electronic underground. Between his Techno Makes Sense network and his Megalopolis radio show (exclusively dedicated to premiering demos from emerging Russian artists), the трип mainstay is an enormously vital cog in fostering the city's growing creative communities. As well as performing our party in Moscow, Nikita steps up as the second collaborator for Maya's True Music remix record. Expect something deep, lithe & distinctly uncompromising.

Dasha Redkina

Dasha Redkina

Sound recordist and DJ, poet and vocal experimentalist, digital composer, photographer and event curator. There's little Ukraine-born Russia-bred Dasha Redkina hasn't done in the arts. On top of this, she holds down a residency at ARMA 17, widely regarded at the most important underground club institutions in Russia. In short, we can't herald her performance on home soil with much more excitement — prepare for something special.

Juras Lietus

Juras Lietus

Juras Lietus is the live project of Anton Kubikov. Anton rose to global renown as one half of SCSI-9, the mind-bending Russian techno duo responsible for some of the most enduring minimal techno on essentialist German imprint Kompakt. In '95, Anton created his own radio show on Russia's first dance FM radio, The Station. Until its closing in 2001, The Station was the only radio station in Russia exclusively devoted to modern electronic music. Fifteen years later, we're over the moon to invite one of Russia's most authentic techno veterans to do his thing live on BR. Get ready for a masterclass.
